Captain Shaun Uyeda is a born and raised San Diego native who has been fishing his whole life. He is an expert in saltwater fishing and enjoys sharing his knowledge with those who come on board. Along with him is second-in-command Bobby Votolato, a seasoned captain that has been with the company since 2021. Captain Shaun and Bobby are passionate about fishing and pride themselves on being able to provide amazing trips for all of their guests.Pelican Sportfishing is proud to offer two top-of-the-line boats with all the features necessary for a successful and enjoyable fishing trip; The Defiance 290 Guadalupe is a 36′ offshore sport fishing boat powered by two 300 HP Yamaha V6 4.2L engines and a 30′ Blackman Billfisher with a Yamaha 300hp engine. Both boats have been built for fishing and have the latest fishing equipment, including state-of-the-art fishfinding and navigation electronics. They also have extra large ice boxes, live bait tanks, private toilets and beds for resting while not fishing. Whether it’s a leisurely day out on the water or an intense day of fishing you’re after, Pelican Sportfishing can provide you with the perfect vessel for your needs!

When fishing with Pelican Sportfishing, anglers can target various delicious fish. Along San Diego’s inshore coastline from Point Loma to La Jolla, you can try your luck for Lingcod, Rockfish, Sea Bass, Sheephead, Halibut and Yellowtail. For those who want to venture offshore, the Coronado Islands and the deeper blue ocean provide excellent opportunities to catch Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo and Marlin.

When fishing with Pelican Sportfishing, anglers use a variety of techniques to target a wide variety of species. Inshore fisheries employ spinning gear and live bait, while offshore trolling equipment and artificial lures are more commonly used. Inshore fishing involves jigging, bottom fishing and trolling around structures such as wrecks or jetties. Offshore fishing usually consists of trolling for pelagic fish at higher speeds than inshore using artificial lures in addition to bottom fishing and jigging like used inshore.

Pelican Sportfishing offers a variety of up to 4 person fishing charters to suit every angler. Choose from 6 and 8-hour inshore trips for species such as Yellowtail, White Seabass and more. For those looking for more adventure, consider a 9 or 12-hour excursion to the Coronado Islands to target the same inshore fish in a setting you won’t believe. Enjoy the open waters with our 9 or 12-hour offshore charters trolling for Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Marlin. Our experienced crew will provide helpful instruction and advice throughout your charter so you can make the most of your fishing experience.

On your charter, we have the finest rods, reels and tackle. We also include live bait and an ice box for your catch. Complimentary water and snacks are available, but you’ll need to bring any other food. It’s essential to bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, layers of clothing to keep warm while on the open sea, and of course, your camera to remember your time on the water.
