Review: Changes Restaurant, Venice, LA
Changes Restaurant is a popular Venice Louisiana family-owned restaurant known for its great hospitality and excellent seafood and other meals. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner to hungry patrons and anglers who are aching to get out on the water or have had a fantastic day of fishing and are ready to relax, have a beer or two, reminisce about the day’s events, and eat some great food. The food is made with the best ingredients, which means very fresh seafood.
One item on the menu that is on most menus in Louisiana is the Po’Boy. At Changes, you can get the Po’Boy in many different ways. There are fried seafood Po’Boys with perfectly fried crispy oysters, shrimp, and fish. There is also “The Big Mav, ” a combination of shrimp and catfish smothered in a creamy seafood sauce, spicy with a bit of sweetness. All the Po’Boys are served on fluffy French bread that is pillowy soft on the inside, and crisp on the outside. Unless otherwise asked, they are “dressed,” meaning topped with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise, and pickles.
Along with these choices, you have many more that are not seafood-related. You can get two hamburgers: Hot Sausage, Grilled Chicken, Ham, Turkey, Hot Roast Beef and Gravy, and French Fries and Gravy. The Po’Boys can also be served as sandwiches on a bun or toast.
Other items that you will find in most Louisiana restaurants are Fried Pickles, Fried Okra, Fried Mushrooms, Gumbo, and Fried Seafood Platters, including Shrimp, Oysters, Fish, or combinations of these and a Seafood Platter with all of the seafood on one plate. It is huge.
Items not found on every menu are the Seafood Kickers, sort like a spicy seafood hushpuppy, the Crawfish, Spinach and Artichoke Dip, a creamy dip that is a fan favorite, and a Seafood Quesadilla. Then there are the Seafood Fries and Seafood Baked Potato. The Seafood Fries are crisp French fries topped with a creamy seafood sauce filled with shrimp and other seafood. The Seafood Baked Potato is the same as the fries, but the sauce is poured over a baked potato.
There are also classic dishes you find all over the country and the world. Mozzarella Sticks can be ordered for an appetizer, there are House, Caesar, and Chef’s Salads, and for entrees, there are a Chicken Breast Platter and Hamburger Steak Platter. There are also BLTs, Club Sandwiches and Chicken Tenders.
The kids’ menu consists of Fried Shrimp or Fish, Chicken Fingers and a Grilled Cheese Sandwich,
One more thing I need to talk about is the Gumbo. It is a traditional gumbo made with a dark roux and filled with seafood. It is one of the best things on the menu and one of the most ordered meals. You have to come and try it when you make it down to Venice.
Change is an excellent restaurant in Venice, Louisiana. Most visitors come to fish for Tuna; Venice is called “Tuna Town,” and anglers come from all over to go out and fish for the giants of the sea. I did not list the breakfast items found here at Changes, but they have a breakfast you can stop by on the way to your boat. Changes also make food to go for your meals and snacks on the boat.
