Rhode Island is the smallest state in the country, but it still has plenty of spots to fish. Great inshore fishing can be found in the Eastern section of the state with Narragansett Bay and the Rhode Island Sound.

Block Island is 9 miles off the coast and is home to some of the best Striped Bass fishing in the Northeast. The largest Striper of record was caught here, and the chance of pulling in a 40+ pound cow is very high. But even if you do not pull in a giant, there are plenty of Stripers in the area, along with Bluefish, Tautog, Sea Bass, and more. The inshore game for Rhode Island is found up and down the coast and in the Sounds, Bay, Inlets, and many islands, all with ledges and bottom structures that house many species of fish.

Block Island has excellent inshore fishing, but it is a great place to start an epic offshore adventure. From here, you can head out to the Continental Shelf and the Canyons, where the big predators live. The Hudson Canyon, Atlantis Canyon, The Tails, and Veatch are deep and great places to pull in all the trophy fish you want to catch.

You can battle with Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Swordfish, and Sharks like Mako, Blue, Hammerhead, and White and Blue Marlin. These trips take some time, so prepare for a full day or make it an all-nighter or multiple-day trip. The fishing offshore is off the charts, and if you have an angler’s bucket list, you can check off a lot of boxes as you battle some giants.
