Located along the eastern shore of the Golfo Dulce (Sweet Bay) on west coast of Costa Rica, Golfito is Costa Rica’s most southern port town and is well known as a fishing paradise. Golfito was the home of the United Brand Banana Company until its closure in 1985. The company donated its land to the Costa Rican government who turned the majority of the property into national park land and wildlife reserves.
Golfito is now Costa Rica’s most popular spot for Eco-tourism. Inshore species caught off Golfito include fantastic fishing for roosterfish, snapper, grouper and snook.
The fishing off Golfito is fantastic year round, with offshore fishing for black and blue marlin, and yellowfin tuna excelling from September through December. Sailfish and dorado are at their peak from November through April, but offshore fishing for Pacific sailfish and dorado is great year round at Golfito. Inshore fishing for roosterfish and snapper are excellent year round.
There is no bad time for roosterfish and snapper in Golfito. Anglers can also find good, consistent inshore and beach fishing for snook year round. Golfito offers beautiful, tropical weather year round with the rainy season peaking from September to November. Temperatures range from the mid 80’s to low 90’s year round with evening lows in the 70’s. Golfito has a large charter fishing fleet with great options for all budgets.
