About

Captain Richard is a local who has been fishing the waters in and around Fort Bragg his whole life. He is a 3rd generation charter captain taking over his family business in 2010. Before that, he honed his fishing skills with experiences on great charter boats in the North Pacific in Canada to the South Pacific in Costa Rica and also time spent in the other hotspots of Hawaii and Florida. He is a 100-ton Master, getting his license when he attended college. He is a happy, jovial guy who spreads happiness to all of the passengers on the Kracken as he jokes around. You will have a great time on board with Captain Richard, and because Fort Bragg is out of the way, fishing here is undisturbed and excellent.

Boat

The Kraken is a 50’ Delta licensed for up to 49 people for 100 miles. It is equipped with the latest modern fishing finding and navigation instruments. The Kraken is one of the fastest boats in Fort Bragg, with a cruising speed of 15 – 25 knots. It will get you to the fishing grounds quickly, leaving you more time to fish. It is safe with lifejackets, including children, a fire prevention system and a complete supply of safety equipment. It is large and has a heated cabin and large clean restrooms. It was built for fishing and has taken happy passengers out for many years.

What to Bring

You should wear comfortable clothing that matches the weather. If rain is in the forecast, then bring a raincoat. If it is going to be sunny, then a hat, polarized sunglasses and sunscreen would be needed. Slip-proof shoes are also recommended. For all fishing trips, a license is required. It is $7 and can be purchased at any bait shop in the area. $5 will be charged for gear rental except when paying in cash, and then it is free. You should also bring a cooler for your fish. We fillet your catch for you, and for crab trips, cook the crab for nominal prices. There are seasons for many fish and the best times of the year for hooking up with them. Try to plan your vacation with the season of the fish you want to target. If you need clarification on these seasons, contact Captain Richard, who can assist you with setting up the charter you need.
