Captain Josh Holmes owns and operates one of the best fishing charters in Miami, Florida. Over 20 years of competitive fishing and 15 years of professional guiding experience have made him an expert in his field. He has some favorite spots, depending on what type of fish you’re looking to catch. He has all sorts of tricks for finding fish and hooking them as quickly as possible! He will even clean and fillet your fish for you!
Grand Slam Charters has two boats that are perfect for anglers. Both boats offer superior seafaring capabilities, so you can make your charter an unforgettable experience.
The 30 ft. Contender center console Contender is specifically designed for offshore fishing with dual Yamaha 300 HP engines capable of roaring up to 60 knots and outfitted with the latest navigation/fish-finding technology, outriggers, downriggers, live well and a fish box for storing catches. It allows up to 5 anglers to fish throughout the boat.
The 18 ft. Gordon Waterman allows 4 anglers to move freely. It has remarkable stability and comfort thanks to its flat bottom design. Powered by a 90 hp Yamaha outboard to get you to the fish quickly and a trolling motor and Power Pole to ensure you do not spook fish and get you right up on them.
South Florida is considered the home of saltwater fishing, and the Miami area is a great place to catch some of the largest fish in the world.
Captain Josh uses many different techniques to get you on the fish. Some of these are Trolling, Bottom Fishing and Deep Dropping for Swordfish.
Grand Slam offers Offshore Charters and Swordfish Charters to the deep waters, Reef Fishing Charters to the patch reefs, and Inshore/Backcountry Charters to the shallow flats and backwaters.
Top-of-the-line rods and reels are provided, along with an assortment of lures and lots of live bait. You should bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat for sun protection, drinks, and snacks.

3 months agoGot to spend two days with Captain Josh this week and to say it was epic would be an understatement. Day one gave us not one, but TWO Swordfish! We landed the first one before noon and got another one on the next drop, about 10 minutes in. Unreal. Day two was pretty windy, so we stayed closer in and made a nice haul for dinner. Listening to Josh was awesome, I learned a ton - the guy knows so much about fishing and the Keys - He knew exactly where to put us and made the trip down one of the coolest things I have ever done. Great boat captain, great fisherman, great dude. Cannot wait to get back down there to do it again!

3 months ago4th year with Cap’n Josh and wouldn’t even consider another charter. This man knows the water! Most recent trip was in mid January 2024 and went out for Swordfish - caught 2 @ 225lb each!

2 years agoI would highly recommend going on a trip with Captain Josh. Very professional, laid back trip. I’ve never been on such a clean, well kept boat. He put us on the fish. If he asks if you want to go play tug of war, go play tug of war. Catching the amberjack was a crazy fight. I will be going back on his boat every time I’m in the keys, and would recommend him to anyone looking for a trip in the keys. We had an amazing great day on the water! Thank you for the great trip Josh, it was one to remember forever!

a year agoI was looking for a fishing charter for me and my 13yo son. It can be a little overwhelming looking for a good charter with so many options out here. I feel very lucky that I found Captain Josh! I put in a few requests for information with other charters and Josh responded right away to gather some information about what kind of experience we were look for. I explained that we were from Nebraska and wanted to hook into something big and have a fight. Captain’s response: “I got you!” Now to the good stuff! We booked a 6 hr charter and he took us out to a ship wreck where we banged a mess of Amberjack. It was an amazing experience. I have never fought something so big before. It was a great fight! Not only were we fighting the Jack, we were also fighting the barracuda and bull sharks. It was the most exciting fishing experiences of my life! My son was in heaven. Then we moved on and limited out on Yellow Tail Snapper. We couldn’t keep our lines in the water without a fish on. It was insane. Captain Josh was very knowledgeable of the waters and area. He was very good to explain the why’s and made my son and I much smarter about the fish and the different equipment. His boat is clean and he works very hard to keep it that way. Captain cleaned all our fish and packed them up for us and we had fantastic meal that night. If you can get in with Captain Josh you should do it but he fills up fast so do it as soon as you can.
