Cobourg Fishing Safaris in Nightcliff, Northern Territory, offers a top-tier fishing experience on the remote Cobourg Peninsula, part of the Garig Gunak Barlu National Park in northern Arnhem Land. Accessible via a short flight from Darwin, this operation provides anglers with access to a rich marine environment. Guests stay at Cobourg Coastal Camp, which accommodates up to 12 people in safari-style tents equipped with twin beds, fans, and eco-friendly amenities like monsoonal showers and composting toilets. Meals are served in an open-air dining area, with local seafood and produce as staples.

Fishing is the main focus, with Port Essington offering a range of species. Barramundi and mangrove jack are found in the creeks and tidal rivers, while offshore waters are home to Spanish mackerel, giant trevally, and coral trout. Cobourg Fishing Safaris offers several charter options, ranging from three-day to six-day trips. Blue water sport fishing charters target species around reefs and ledges, while estuary fishing charters focus on species native to the Northern Territory in mangrove-lined creeks. Multi-day safaris provide a mix of both environments.

The operation uses custom-built boats designed for Northern Territory conditions. The 6.8-meter Custom Works Eliminator Pro, powered by a 225hp Yamaha 4-stroke outboard, can navigate both blue water and shallow flats. With a shallow draft of 30 centimeters, the boats access mangrove creeks and tidal drains, while their high sides ensure safety in the swell. Removable seats allow for an open deck, suitable for various fishing methods.

The Cobourg Fishing Safaris are led by Captain Hugh Gange, an award-winning tour guide with over a decade of experience on the Cobourg Peninsula. Captain Hugh’s knowledge of local marine life and indigenous culture adds depth to each trip. The guiding team is professional and attentive, ensuring that all guests, whether experienced anglers or novices, have a successful experience.

Cobourg Fishing Safaris operates from April to November. The all-inclusive packages cover flights, transfers, accommodation, meals, and fishing gear. Given the camp’s remote location and high demand, booking in advance is recommended. For more information or to book, visit Cobourg Fishing Safaris’ website.
