Tacky Jacks has been voted in the local people’s choice awards as having the friendliest staff, the best atmosphere on the beach, the best happy hour around and the best bar in town. It has been a favorite hangout for locals and tourists for decades. There is a gift shop with an extensive choice of memorability of your time here. The food at Tacky Jacks is flavorful and satisfying. Many standouts on the menu keep the locals and visitors of the city coming back for more. For breakfast, you must try the Farmers Omelette, which has been voted one of the top 100 menu items in Alabama to eat before dying. This is a large omelet filled with two types of meat, onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, potatoes and two kinds of cheese, American and cheddar, inside and melted on top of the eggs.

There are also two Gulf shrimp dishes that should not be missed. The Shrimp omelet has been voted one of the best omelets in the bayou, and The Shrimp and Cheese Grits is one of the best breakfast items in town. There are also traditional breakfast selections like pancakes, french toast, and biscuits and gravy. Don’t forget the famous Jacks Bloody Mary made with Whiskey Willy’s Bloody Mary mix.

The lunch and dinner menu is full of delicious items. The house specialty is the Tacky Shrimp. This is sauteed shrimp in a flavorful clam and tomato broth seasoned with special herbs and seasoning served with crusty French bread or over rice or pasta. Other items not to be missed are the Green Tomato Fries, green tomatoes cut like french fries that are battered and deep fried and the Crab Claws, fresh crab claws that can be fried or steamed. They are not to be missed.

here is also the very popular Mexican Garbage, a massive pile of nachos with meat, tomato, onions, black olives, two types of cheese, sour cream, jalapeno peppers and salsa. For more substantial meals there are outstanding fish tacos: your choice of Mahi Mahi, Grouper or Flaky Fish, Royal Red Shrimp “The “Crown Jewel of the Gulf,” are steamed with melted butter, the Shrimp and Grits, a fan favorite with seasoned gulf shrimp, Conecuh sausage and a flavorful Tacky broth over cheese grits, and three fresh fish platters: Ahi Tuna, Grouper and Mahi Mahi. Don’t miss the Chocolate Brownie Explosion for dessert. If you go fishing on one of the many fishing charters, you can bring your catch to the restaurant, and the talented chefs will perfectly cook your fish.

Tacky Jack’s bars serve up some of the best cocktails around. They are famous for their Jacks Famous Bushwacker, an adult milkshake made with three types of Cruzan rum and Kamora coffee liqueur. There is also the Tacky Daquiri, made with Cruzan rum and flavored with your choice of strawberry, banana, peach, and mango, and Jacks Hurricane, a concoction of Cruzan orange rum, Amaretto, Triple Sec, Orange and Pineapple juices, and a splash of cherry. They also have a wide selection of craft, domestic and imported bottled beers. Don’t miss their famous happy hour from 3 pm – 6 pm, where you can get $2.50 domestic bottles, $2 well drinks, $1 off signature drinks, and $4 Bushwackers!

Nice breakfast spot with indoor and outdoor seating right on the Gulf. We went for brunch. The food was good BUT the cheese grits should come with a warning label! I ordered a side of cheese grits. When delivered they had a red-orange tint. Unexpectedly, they were SPICY! We inquired and were told the cheese grits are made with cheese and hot sauce. This should definitely be disclosed, especially in the South! On another note, the mimosas were great and can be made with OJ, pineapple juice, or cranberry juice.

I was only there for drinks. I did pay !25 for two mixed drinks, which felt like hotel bar charges. Staff were super sweet. Atmosphere is great. They’re in a great location, and have adequate parking.

We took the boys here for lunch, and it was great! The boys got the grilled cheese sandwiches with fries, and my wife and I both got the fire cracker shrimp poboys. All the food was delicious. The atmosphere is fun too, the restaurant multilevel and painted bright colors. Oh, and the bushwacker cocktails were very good.

Updated review January 2024-very much enjoyed my trip back to Tacky Jacks. We had crab cakes, crab claws and the grouper sandwich. All still very good.January 2023-For no reason what so ever I have avoided this place. I am happy to say I gave them a try after bringing my nieces to one of their arts and craft events. We had the pleasure of eating outside, nice seating with beautiful views. Crab claws, crab cakes and grouper were great. We went back a week later and had another great experience. Friendly staff. This place is a new favorite.
