St. Simons Island

St. Simons Island and the other Golden Islands of Georgia, Jekyll Island, Sea Island, and Cumberland Island are beautiful barrier islands located north of the Florida border and South of Savannah. They are an excellent destination for serious anglers. The islands have numerous fishing charters, but most are found on and near St. Simons Island. There is fantastic inshore fishing in creeks, sounds, and the backcountry and nearshore at the many artificial reefs dot the shoreline. And don’t forget the tremendous offshore bite too. St. Simmons is the jumping-off point for most fishing charters in the Golden Islands.
The fertile waters are located and easily accessed from the docks.

There is terrific inshore fishing here for the trinity of grand slams, Redfish, Trout, and Flounder, or add on a Black Drum for the Southeastern Super Slam. You can find fish in the backcountry waters of marshes, creeks, and rivers, as well as the sounds. Also, the sounds between islands have an incredible Tarpon bite during the summer. There is nothing like the thrill of watching a giant Tarpon leap entirely out of the water.

Nearshore, you will also find the Tarpon in the summer months, along with numerous sharks throughout the year. In addition, there are reef systems 10 – 20 miles off the coast where many fish call home. Here you can target Seabass. Tripletail, Bluefish, and more.

Offshore is the Gulfstream where you never know what you might hook up with; there are all of the usual trophy suspects like Mahi, Wahoo, Tuna, Sailfish, and the every so often, you might find yourself battling a true monster, Blue Marlin. A little closer to the coast is a string of artificial wrecks 80 – 120 ft. deep that attract bottom feeders like Snapper, Grouper, Sea Bass, Kingfish, Cobia, and Amberjack roaming these waters.

Everything is close to the coast. Your St. Simon’s fishing charter can bring you to the inshore fishing grounds in less than 10 minutes, and the deep blue of the Gulf Stream is less than an hour away.
