Located between the bustling cities of La Paz, to the North and Cabo San Lucas, to the south, the East Cape Region along the pristine coast of the Sea of Cortez on Baja California Sur, Mexico, is an area of unspoiled natural beauty. East Cape is a treasure for the angler looking for Baja Mexico’s most secluded beaches and top notch resorts that cater to those looking for a true Baja Mexico fishing vacation. Much of the East Cape road is still unpaved which tends to keep the number of visitors to East Cape low. The local people are hospitable and friendly. If a peaceful fishing vacation is what you are looking for, East Cape, Baja Sur, Mexico is the perfect place!

East Cape boasts the only coral reefs on the Western shore of North America at Cabo Pulmo. The snorkeling and diving are fantastic with generally calm waters and an abundance of reef life. Other East Cape activities include ocean kayaking, surfing and mountain biking. Windsurfing and Kiteboarding are becoming increasingly popular along East Cape’s shoreline. Stretching over 70 miles of virtually untouched coast, there are hundreds of secluded beaches, some even yet unnamed for the privacy lover to enjoy a relaxing swim, picnic, or even a nap! There is virtually no shopping or nightlife in East Cape so if you are interested, be sure to get that done in either La Paz or Cabo when you fly in or out of Mexico. East Cape is most famous for its fishing.There is no airport in East Cape, although the airports in both La Paz and Los Cabos have service from most of the major airlines. In order to get to the fabulous fishing resorts from either airport you must rent a car as there is no taxi service to East Cape. Most travelers come in along the East Cape road, a dirt road that runs along the coast, but there is also a road that cuts over the mountains from Mexico Highway One just south of Los Cabos International Airport. Other options available are to arrive by boat, or by small private plane. Several of the resorts in East Cape have airstrips.

East Cape, Baja, Mexico is a true fishing paradise. The waters of the Sea of Cortez are generally calm off of East Cape and true big game fish can be found as close as 3- 4 miles to shore sometimes closer. Huge blue marlin, striped marlin, black marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna and dorado are found throughout the year in the deeper waters, although summer is the best time for landing huge fish. Large groupers and cabrilla (sea bass) can be found in the reefs and rocky outcroppings closer to shore. Inshore fly and beach fishing is outstanding for grouper, cabrilla, sierra, ladyfish, snapper, triggerfish, needlefish, and large schools of roosterfish.

The weather along East Coast is great year round, ranging from the low 70’s in winter to the high 80’s in summer. The fishing in East Cape is great year round as well. The summer months are the best time to land huge billfish but striped marlin, blue marling, black marlin and sailfish are all great catches from April through November. Swordfish can be found from December through May. Huge yellowfin tuna are a great catch from April all the way until December, but tuna fishing is still good in the winter months January-March. Amberjack, cabrilla (sea bass), grouper, jack Crevalle, pargo, roosterfish, sierra, snapper, grouper, yellowtail, and wahoo can all be caught year round at East Cape. Yellowtail is especially great in the winter months. With such a bounty of species and availability, East Cape is a gold mine for fishing vacations any time of year!
