The waters off the coast of South Florida has it all!! And Taco Hooked Up Charters is the perfect choice to experience it. Captain Taco Perez of Taco Hooked Up Charter Service has been fishing these waters for fifty years. He honed his craft aboard the boats of experienced captains that had him going all over the Caribbean for billfish tournaments on one boat and partaking of over 450 half-day trips a year on another. Eventually he knew it was time for him to make the big leap and start his own charter company. He uses this knowledge and experience, and a very gregarious personality, to customize a fishing trip you won’t soon forget full of laughs, fun and lots of action.

The “Hooked Up” is a 45′ Hatteras with two 8-71 Detroit engines and a 9kw Onan generator. Designed for fishing, it is one of a few in the fleet of Fort Lauderdale that has not two but four swivel fighting chairs. It has a massive 200-gallon fish box and two extra-large live bait wells because Captain Taco likes using live bait whenever possible. It is also fitted with the latest top-of-the-line fish finding and navigational systems. The “Hooked Up” is also a comfortable boat where its guest can relax in the comfort of an airconditioned salon (that’s the seafaring word for living room) or take a break in one of the two staterooms. There is a full galley with refrigeration, and there are two heads (bathrooms). In addition, the boat is outfitted with International Reels and custom rods built by Captain Taco.

CHARTERS

The “Hooked Up” has many options of charters to choose from, each with its own fun and energy.

Swordfish Charters

There are two swordfish trips, one daytime and one night charter. The daytime charter is one of Captain Taco’s favorites because there can be so much activity on the way out to the swordfish grounds and great action one you get there trying to land a monster. That trip is 12-15 miles offshore, and while on the way, we troll for mahi-mahi, wahoo, tuna, and we might even get hooked up with a marlin. Then we reach the fishing grounds and try to land a monster. And then, on the way home, we can troll for the trophy fish again. The nighttime trip has the same possible activity with the trolling on the way out to the grounds; however, the fish are not as active at night. The trip does leave about 2-3 hours before sunset. The big difference between day and night fishing for swordfish is that the lines do not go far because at night. The swordfish come up from the depths to feed, so the lines do not have to go 1000 feet down. This makes it less of a fight to reel them in. Both of these charters are 9-10 hours. One more thing to note is not always, but sometimes we will pull in larger fish during the daytime than at night.

Shark Charters

South Florida is one of the best places for sharks in the world. There are so many species in and around the countless reefs and wrecks. We may hook up with blacktip reef sharks, thresher sharks, the speedy mako sharks, bull sharks, tiger sharks, hammerhead sharks, as well as possibilities of others. There is also the shark fishing charter. These waters are filled with sharks, and Captain Taco knows where to find one of these monsters.

Sailfish

Another prized trophy fish is the fun sailfish. It hits hard, fights hard and gives the angler a fight, but it is so rewarding reeling it in and taking a picture with one of these beauties. We do kite fish as this is the method of choice when trying to catch a sailfish. During this charter, there are opportunities for other action-filled fish like mahi-mahi, wahoo and even the other trophy billfish, the blue marlin.

Wrecks and Reefs

There is also deep dropping in the wrecks and reefs for bottom feeders like grouper, snapper, tilefish and more. Also, we will target amberjacks and cobia and whatever else is biting. Another technique is trolling along the wrecks as well. This technique will attract kingfish and bonito.

Tricks of the Trade

Captain Taco has been fishing these waters and working on these waters for almost half a century. He has tried and true techniques for each and every fishing excursion, depending on your preference. He knows where to go. What types of tackle to drop, where to drop them and how deep. And the “Hooked Up” uses live bait whenever possible, so what bait to use too. All to get you on the fish, reeling in fish after fish, laughing if all plans come together.

The “Hooked Up” is not just for the experienced angler. Captain Taco can definitely teach all of the tricks he has learned during his tournament days to those searching for trophy fish, but he and his knowledgeable crew love to teach new anglers the ropes too. There is nothing like the smile of a child or an adult after they have reeled in their first catch. It is priceless, and Captain Taco loves to be a part of the start of this magical ride that is fishing.

Come have a blast and a few laughs with Captain Taco. He loves to have fun and loves when you have fun, especially when you are hooked up!

Captain Taco is also happy to be your concierge in South Florida. He can assist you with hotel accommodations, restaurant recommendations, where to go at night, what to do during the day when you are not on the water and how to avoid the many tourist traps that await a weary traveler.
