Pelican Sportfishing is proud to offer two top-of-the-line boats with all the features necessary for a successful and enjoyable fishing trip; The Defiance 290 Guadalupe is a 36′ offshore sport fishing boat powered by two 300 HP Yamaha V6 4.2L engines and a 30′ Blackman Billfisher with a Yamaha 300hp engine. Both boats have been built for fishing and have the latest fishing equipment, including state-of-the-art fishfinding and navigation electronics. They also have extra large ice boxes, live bait tanks, private toilets and beds for resting while not fishing. Whether it’s a leisurely day out on the water or an intense day of fishing you’re after, Pelican Sportfishing can provide you with the perfect vessel for your needs!
When fishing with Pelican Sportfishing, anglers can target various delicious fish. Along San Diego’s inshore coastline from Point Loma to La Jolla, you can try your luck for Lingcod, Rockfish, Sea Bass, Sheephead, Halibut and Yellowtail. For those who want to venture offshore, the Coronado Islands and the deeper blue ocean provide excellent opportunities to catch Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo and Marlin.
When fishing with Pelican Sportfishing, anglers use a variety of techniques to target a wide variety of species. Inshore fisheries employ spinning gear and live bait, while offshore trolling equipment and artificial lures are more commonly used. Inshore fishing involves jigging, bottom fishing and trolling around structures such as wrecks or jetties. Offshore fishing usually consists of trolling for pelagic fish at higher speeds than inshore using artificial lures in addition to bottom fishing and jigging like used inshore.
Pelican Sportfishing offers a variety of up to 4 person fishing charters to suit every angler. Choose from 6 and 8-hour inshore trips for species such as Yellowtail, White Seabass and more. For those looking for more adventure, consider a 9 or 12-hour excursion to the Coronado Islands to target the same inshore fish in a setting you won’t believe. Enjoy the open waters with our 9 or 12-hour offshore charters trolling for Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Marlin. Our experienced crew will provide helpful instruction and advice throughout your charter so you can make the most of your fishing experience.
On your charter, we have the finest rods, reels and tackle. We also include live bait and an ice box for your catch. Complimentary water and snacks are available, but you’ll need to bring any other food. It’s essential to bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, layers of clothing to keep warm while on the open sea, and of course, your camera to remember your time on the water.

a month agoTook a 4 hour trip with Shaun and it was absolutely fantastic. Shaun put us on the fish right away and we caught fish the entire time. The highlight of the trip was my son’s catching two leopard sharks, so cool. We caught 10 different species of fish! Shaun was so knowledgeable, fun and worked so well with the kids! Highly recommend!

3 months agoCaptain Shaun is such a great guy! He made us all including the kids feel like family. The instructions were easy to follow, and he let us all decide where our comfort levels were. He was focused on giving each of us a great trip out. The boat was comfortable and well equipped. He worked hard to make sure we all had a chance to get a fish on, which made for an awesome trip. We look forward to connecting again next time we are in San Diego.

a month agoWe had the best day of fishing with Shawn and Pelican Sportfishing! We came in the off season and were expecting bottom fishing which would have been great, but Shawn noticed a spot where he suspected yellowtail and sure enough, he was right! He acted fast and we caught 3 huge ones! We finished our morning with bottom fishing and caught several more fish for ceviche and fish tacos. Though yellowtail were not expected and were a lucky strike, we certainly appreciated Shawn’s eye, expertise and quick action to make the catch possible for us. It was so exciting!! He is attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We would 100% recommend scheduling Pelican Sportfishing!

a month agoShaun truly provided the best experience for us! Our goal was to fill the freezer, and he made it happen! He was extremely friendly and communication was 100%. We got on the fish and he was able to keep up with four of us reeling in as fast as we could! I also appreciate his family- friendly attitude and atmosphere, as our 2 kids were fishing with us. He explained all the details before and during the excursion so we knew right what to do. And a HUGE thanks for filleting our fish and going above and beyond to drop it off to us, as I got sea sick and needed to take care of myself. Even though I became sick, I would use the patch and go out again with this fabulous small business! I would give 10 stars if I could!! Thank you so much!

5 months agoJust returned from an amazing trip to Coronado islands with Captain Shaun! My husband and I had never gone deep sea fishing before (we only pier/lake fished) and we had no idea what to expect. Shaun had great communication and made sure we had everything ready to go for our trip. Shaun took care of us and made sure we were comfortable the entire time. He loaded the hooks, removed the fish from the lines, quickly untangled our lines, and was amazingly profession and quick to help me (quick and painless!) when I accidently hooked myself on one of the lines. He was very open and honest about expectations on what we could catch given the timing and sea conditions, and drove us to atleast 7 different locations to try our luck. We were getting instant hits consistently whenever we dropped the line. We ended up catching around 14 different species of fish! We wanted to try and catch a lingcod specifically, and he brought us a spot and we were able to reel up a 20 inch (catch and release as it was not of legal size). On the way back we were riding along with a large pod of dolphins, which was an amazing way to end our trip. If you are interested in deep sea fishing, don't hesitate to book with Captain Shaun, you won't regret it. We are already planning our next trip with him next year.
