Orange Beach has amazing fishing, and Getaway Charters is one of the best on the Alabama Gulf Coast. It has been in business for 27 years. Owner and Captain Don McPherson has taken his love for fishing and made a business where he can pass on this passion to you.
There are two Captains for Getaway Charters; Captain Josh Lesly and Captain Gary Sandford. Both have years of experience on charters, and they love to take guests out to sea and pass on their love of this exciting sport to them.
Getaway Charters has three boats for you to choose from. The “Getaway” and her sister, “Another Getaway,” are 46 ft. Hatteras Sportfishing Yachts. The “Getaway” has large Caterpillar C12 Diesel engines, while “Another Getaway” has twin Yanmar engines. Both are quick and can quickly get you to the fishing grounds, meaning more time to fish. The “Another Gateway” is newer, but both have top-line navigation and fish-finding electronics. They also both have an air-conditioned cabin, full bathroom and Sirius Satellite to entertain you when not fishing. “Another Getaway” can also sleep 6 for overnight trips. The third boat is Last Hook. It is faster than the other two and is used for the deep drop charters because of its speed to get you out further to the depths.
On a charter, there are so many fish you may reel into the boat. Trolling nearshore can produce Spanish and King Mackerel and sometimes large Bull Redfish. When High-speed trolling offshore, you can hook up with King Mackerel and Wahoo. During the fall, you might battle with Mahi Mahi, Tuna, White Marlin and Blue Marlin. Bottom feeders include many types of Snapper, including Red, a few Grouper varieties and Triggerfish. When deep-dropping, you can bring up some rarer Grouper like Snowy Grouper, Yellowedge Grouper, Scamp Grouper, Golden and Blue Tilefish, and more.
You can choose from many different charters depending on how much time you want to be on the water and what fish you want to target. There are 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12-hour charters ranging in price from $1000 to $3000 and $3200 for deep dropping. The choices of charters are bottom fishing, trolling, combination fishing, Shark fishing and deep drop charters. These are offered for nearshore and offshore and are all private charters with up to 6 anglers.
Both Captains have their own techniques for different situations, fish and conditions, but bottom fishing, trolling, high-speed trolling and deep-dropping are three that they all use.
Rods, reels, tackle, bait and licenses are provided to you. Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, comfortable clothing, non-slip shoes and a camera are recommended.

5 months agoWe and one other couple booked a deep drop charter targeting grouper with Captain Josh and Corey. Unfortunately, the grouper was not interested in what we had to offer that day. Captain Josh eventually said that we were going to change our tactics and boy did we ever. For a trip that started out slow, it turned out to be the fishing trip of a lifetime. We did catch a couple of groupers BUT, we also brought in three Wahoo starting about 40 to the largest being 91.8 pounds. What else can we say. Thank you, Josh, and Corey you did great!

10 months agoBrought my son, his best friend and two nephews for a 6 hr trip on the Getaway. Captain Josh and FirstMate Corey went the extra mile to make sure our trip was a success and a whole lot of fun. Highly recommend Getaway for your outing in Orange Beach. We’ll definitely be back to fish with them again.

10 months agoCapt Gary on Another Getaway put us right on the fish! We caught our limit of red snapper and then our kids wanted to catch a shark. Mate Tristan worked hard to make a memory that will never be forgotten, a 9 Ft 300 lb + bull shark! They were the best!

a year agoGreat charter boat, captain & crew!We booked the 6-hr bottom fish / trolling charter a few months before the trip & a forecasted storm forced us to reschedule the charter. The captain communicated very early about the approaching storm & handled all the rescheduling so we were still able to get out fishing. We were so grateful for his proactive planning & scheduling accommodations around our flight!We trolled for Spanish mackerel in the inlet before heading out to jig for bottom fish. The captain took us to a few productive holes that were ~6 miles out. We caught lots of red snapper & triggerfish. The crew hooked a big grouper that we got to reel in which was fun; it was eaten by a shark right next to the boat so that made for an exciting (& bloody) finale for the day!The boat has comfy leather seating with a clean bathroom & Bluetooth speakers throughout. The fishing deck has a big live well & plenty of space for a few people. The slip's at a nice marina with clean bathrooms & a restaurant that will cook your fresh fillets

10 months agoMe and my son had a great time. You couldn’t ask for a better professional fishing charter. We would definitely fish with Getaway Charters again! Everyone one was very helpful and extremely nice being it was our first time out on a deep sea fishing trip. I would definitely recommend a 10+ hour trip as 6 hour went by to fast lol
