Captain Jacob Lemon grew up fishing in Minnesota, spending most of his time chasing Walleyes and Crappies. In 2017, he took his first trip to Alaska and quickly realized there was no place like it. Every summer after that, he returned to fish the waters of Cook Inlet and the Gulf of Alaska. In 2021, he and his dad bought a 24-foot offshore boat, and over the next two years, he spent as much time as possible learning the area. In 2022, he decided to turn his passion into something more, and Jake’s Saltwater Adventures was born. When he’s not fishing, he enjoys hunting deer and pheasants in Minnesota with his family.
Homer is known as the Halibut Capital of the World, making it the perfect place for those looking to catch these hard-fighting, great-tasting fish. Full-day Halibut trips run six to eight hours, with a two-fish limit per day, one of which must be under 28 inches. For those wanting a mix of species, combination trips are available. Halibut and Salmon trips run eight to ten hours, targeting King Salmon from May through September and Silver Salmon from late July through the fall. Halibut and Rockfish trips offer a chance to catch aggressive black rockfish, with a daily limit of three, including one non-pelagic species like Yelloweye or Copper Rockfish. On days when Halibut fishing is restricted, a Salmon and Rockfish trip is a great alternative. For those looking to go the extra mile, long-range Halibut trips run up to eleven hours, focusing on areas that see less fishing pressure. There’s also an option to combine Bear Viewing with Halibut fishing. This trip takes you across Cook Inlet to Lake Clark National Park, where you can observe coastal brown bears in their natural habitat before stopping to fish for Halibut on the way back.
The Nauti Dawg, a North River aluminum boat built in 2022, is designed specifically for Alaskan waters. Powered by a Yamaha 300 outboard with a 25-horsepower kicker for Salmon trolling, it’s equipped with top-of-the-line electronics and safety gear. The boat has a stand-up restroom and offers a dry, comfortable ride while traveling to the fishing grounds. With space for up to six people, there’s plenty of room to reel in fish while taking in the scenery and wildlife.
