Initially, he operated a 35-foot Young Brothers six-pack boat out of Keyport, New Jersey, focusing on light tackle casting and live bait fishing for striped bass. His operation became known for night trips using chunking techniques in the back bay during the spring and eeling offshore in the summer and fall. In the spring of 2025, he expanded the operation, introducing a new 62-foot Arrow Yacht and transitioning back to a head boat format in Atlantic Highlands. Alongside running trips, he shares his knowledge at seminars such as the Philadelphia Fishing Show, where he teaches techniques like bucktailing for fluke. His deep understanding of local waters and commitment to quality service have made him a respected figure in the fishing community.
As a head boat, Dark Horse Charter Fishing offers daily trips with no reservations required. Just show up before the posted trip time and go. Open boat trips run from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, giving anglers access to productive fishing grounds. Special night-time striped bass chunking trips operate from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM, focusing on striped bass using proven techniques. Private charters are available for groups of up to 80 people, with options beyond fishing, including sunset cruises, NYC and Statue of Liberty cruises, and burial at sea services.
The vessel is a custom-built 62-foot boat from Arrow Yachts in Arundel, Maine, designed for both fishing and comfort. Certified for up to 85 passengers, it provides plenty of space for movement. Twin Detroit Diesel engines offer the power and range necessary to reach prime fishing locations efficiently. Advanced Garmin electronics, including CHIRP and Side Scan sonar technology, improve fish detection and navigation. Inside, the heated cabin has comfortable seating, a full galley serving hot food and drinks, and separate men’s and women’s restrooms with freshwater sinks.
