Captain Richard is a local who has been fishing the waters in and around Fort Bragg his whole life. He is a 3rd generation charter captain taking over his family business in 2010. Before that, he honed his fishing skills with experiences all over the world. He is a happy, jovial guy who spreads happiness to all of the passengers on the Kracken as he jokes around. You will have a great time on board with Captain Richard, and because Fort Bragg is out of the way, fishing here is undisturbed and excellent.
The Kraken is a 50’ Delta licensed for up to 49 people for 100 miles. It is equipped with the latest modern fishing finding and navigation instruments. The Kraken is one of the fastest boats in Fort Bragg, with a cruising speed of 15 – 25 knots. It will get you to the fishing grounds quickly, leaving you more time to fish. It is safe with lifejackets, including children, a fire prevention system and a complete supply of safety equipment. It is large and has a heated cabin and large clean restrooms. It was built for fishing and has taken happy passengers out for many years.
The fish that you can find off the coast of Fort Bragg are Rockfish, Ling Cod, Chinook Salmon and Albacore Tuna. There are also Dungeness Crabs in the water.
Two main fishing techniques are bottom fishing for Rockfish and Ling Cod and trolling for Salmon and Tuna.
Anchor Charters offers 5-hour morning/afternoon trips for salmon 7 days a week and 5-hour charters for rockfish/lingcod. A 10 – 12 hour Albacore Tuna trip is also available. This trip is only for max. 10 anglers. Half-day Crabbing trips are available as well. In November and December, rockfish/crab combo charters are available. Drop your crab pots on the way out to sea, fish all day and come back home and check your pots.
You should wear comfortable clothing that matches the weather: waterproof clothes for rain and sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat for sunny weather. Slip-proof shoes are also recommended. For all trips, a license is required. $5 will be charged for gear rental except when paying in cash, and then it is free. You should also bring a cooler for your fish after we fillet it for you, and we can cook your crab for nominal prices.
