Scenic City Fishing Charters, Inc. is based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is known for guided fishing trips focused on trophy catfish, bass, walleye, and crappie. A day on the water is a must when visiting the area, and they are ready to provide a close and personal introduction to some of the best fishing available. They supply all necessary equipment, including boats, rods, reels, lures, bait, and water, with targeted fish species varying by season. Anglers need to bring their own food and secure a Tennessee fishing license before the trip. Most trips accommodate up to three anglers, except for catfishing with Captain Aaron Massey, who can take four. Catch-and-release is encouraged, but keeping a few for the dinner table is an option.
Captain Richard Simms, who owns and operates Scenic City Fishing Charters, has spent 60 years on the Tennessee River. A former Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency game warden, outdoor journalist, and photographer, he has built a lifetime of knowledge and connections in the field. Though “semi-retired,” he stays involved by booking trips for the talented captains on his team. Born in Chattanooga, he worked in law enforcement before moving into photography and public relations with TWRA. Eventually, he returned home and found a new career as a broadcast journalist and freelance outdoor writer. His book, An Outdoor State of Mind, reflects his lifelong connection to nature and fishing. In 2006, he launched Scenic City Fishing Charters, never expecting it to grow into one of the largest guide services in the region. He credits its success to a team of skilled captains who prioritize the angler’s enjoyment and the outstanding fishery they have access to. Over time, he has built a strong team that includes Captain Ben Hayes, Captain Kris Simmons, Captain Pete Fesperman, Captain Ryan Glover, Captain Bryan Freels, Captain Joe Jellison, Captain Aaron Massey, and Captain Blake Tidwell. These guides operate as independent contractors who coordinate their schedules through Scenic City Fishing Charters.
Fishing trips are available for four, six, or eight hours, seven days a week, with advance reservations required.
